Infant Mental Health

It was under unfortunate circumstances that Robbie was referred to the EPSDT program. Robbie came to be involved in the Children’s Nurturing Project EPSDT program by CPS because of severe maltreatment and abuse. He was removed from his home and placed in the care of his biological father and paternal grandmother. Robbie and his family were not expecting the amount of support and intervention that Robbie would need to recover through the EPSDT program. Robbie and his family were unsure of what to do and what to expect of his outcome.

Within the first two visits it was very apparent that Robbie’s father and grandmother were very dedicated to doing what they could to help Robbie succeed. They were both very engaged and open with the process and asked questions that directly benefitted Robbie’s success. It was amazing to see that the family was so engaged. If you had seen Robbie even just a few weeks prior to the visit you would see the amount of effort that the family had put into the rehabilitation of Robbie. Their support for Robbie and their involvement has allowed Robbie to grow in leaps and bounds since the first initial visit.

The family is ready now to take more involved directive approaches to help Robbie succeed. The positive attitude and the amount of support they are seeking from community resources are amazing. They see and understand that the process will take time, but they have been able to recognize the impact of their support that has benefited Robbie in just these short weeks of initial treatment. Robbie is beginning to show signs of improvement in his development and social emotional status on a weekly basis, and the family is looking forward to working with the EPSDT program to continue helping Robbie meet his goals. This is just another perfect example of how the Children’s Nurturing Project’s EPSDT program is helping families succeed within the community.
